Return Orders & Transfer Orders

Correct stock movements safely using return orders and transfer orders, without breaking the audit trail.

Return orders and transfer orders are your safe way to correct stock.

They protect your audit trail and keep inventory value accurate.

Before you start

After you complete this module, validate your learning using Return Orders and Transfer Orders Training Outcomes.

You should be able to:

  • Reverse posted sales documents using Sales Return Orders

  • Reverse posted purchase documents using Purchase Return Orders

  • Handle partial-case returns and different units of measure

  • Handle duty paid vs duty free returns correctly (where applicable)

  • Move stock between locations using Transfer Orders

  • Transfer stock across duty status (duty free → duty paid only)

  • Add Additional Charges to transfers (if you use them)

  • Reserve a specific piece of stock for a transfer (manual reservation)

Sales return orders

Use sales return orders for inventory returns.

Use finance-only credit memos for non-stock corrections.

Process customer stock returns

  • Create a return from posted documents using Get Posted Document Lines to Reverse

  • Return a partial case (for example, 1 bottle)

  • Post returns with and without additional charges

  • Review the posted return documents and entries

Use transfer orders to move stock between locations.

This includes movements via an IN TRANSIT location.

  • Transfer stock within the same duty status

  • Reserve a specific Item Ledger Entry for a transfer line

  • Understand when this is needed (provenance, rotation, customer commitments)

Additional charges can change cost and postings.

What you’ll be able to do

  • Add additional charges manually to a transfer order

  • Apply default additional charges (rules-based)

  • Reconcile posted charges if required

Warehouse integration (if used)

If your location is integrated to a 3PL (warehouse), transfer and sales documents can generate outbound requests.
